Your Branded Podcast: Custom Sets, And The World Famous Skutch Studio Experience

At The World Famous Skutch Studio, we’re passionate about creating high-quality video podcasts for business owners and creators. In our new episode of OPP, our fearless leaders, Pete and Marnie, share why branded studio environments matter, and explain how our studio becomes our clients’ own talk show set.

Why Your Podcast Set Matters

Most podcast studios offer attractive “one-size-fits-all” environments. The problem? If every creator is sitting in the same chair, under the same neon sign, with the same bookshelf background, your content becomes forgettable almost instantly. The audience may enjoy the clip, but they won’t necessarily remember your brand.

A custom-branded environment changes that.

When your colors, logos, lighting, props, textures, and overall aesthetic are intentionally woven into the set design, your content becomes recognizable at a glance. Over time, that consistency creates familiarity with your audience. People begin to associate the look and feel of the show with your brand before they even hear someone speak.

That matters enormously in short-form content.

Most viewers encounter your brand for the first time through a 15-60 second social clip, not a full podcast episode. In those few seconds, your environment is communicating professionalism, credibility, personality, and production value before a single word is processed.

A polished branded set also creates stronger perceived authority. Audiences subconsciously trust content that looks established. A custom environment signals that your show is intentional, serious, and professionally produced, not just another webcam conversation uploaded to the internet.

And beyond branding, custom environments create a better on-camera experience for hosts and guests. When creators step into a space that feels like their show instead of a rented room, the energy changes. The set begins to feel like a true home base for conversations, storytelling, and community building.

That’s why we believe the modern podcast isn’t just an audio product anymore.
It’s a visual media brand. It’s a show.

Case Study: Challenge Mania Podcast

When the Challenge Mania planned their weekend-long podcast shoot at The World Famous Skutch Studios, we helped them take custom branding to the next level. They utilized all of the studio’s resources to build a custom set that included a custom projected backdrop, notebooks, mugs, throw blankets, pillows, and a striking lighting design in their signature purple. Additionally, little touches like mic plates and colored windscreens created subtle but powerful distinctions.  These branding elements elevated the space into the “home” of Challenge Mania, making the set feel truly unique and resulting in amazing content that kept their branding front and center.

Challenge Mania Podcast Reel

Rather than settling for a “boring podcast studio” that looks the same for every show, these changes allow the studio to transform into your own talk show set, one easily packed away in a tote and reassembled for your next recording session.

The World Famous Studio Difference: More Than a Podcast Studio

Skutch Media offers more than a typical podcast studio; it’s a mini soundstage built for customization.

Skutch’s flexibility means production teams aren’t locked into preset lighting or decor; clients can transform the space to match their ambitions. This ensures every podcast shot at Skutch Studio stands apart from others.

Taking Your Podcast to the Next Level

For brands ready to level up, our branded set opportunities unlock an exciting new opportunity. The opportunity to have your own talk show set that fuels authenticity, enhances branding, and fosters a sense of “home” that takes your content to the next level.

  • Pete Joseph [00:00:00]:

Foreign. Welcome to another episode of OPP Other people's podcast. We're sitting on the Challenge Mania set.

    Marnie Joseph [00:00:14]:

    Yeah, we are.

    Pete Joseph [00:00:16]:

This is the official home of Challenge Mania podcast. They just shot here a couple weeks ago. Yes, they were awesome.

    Marnie Joseph [00:00:23]:

    It was great.

    Pete Joseph [00:00:24]:

    It was incredible.

    Marnie Joseph [00:00:25]:

    Super fun.

    Pete Joseph [00:00:25]:

Devin Toney, Derek Scott, Ebies Ebies Kefla. It was incredible. So we thought it'd be pretty cool to shoot from their set, their setup and show everybody kind of how you can customize your own set to really make that podcast your own.

    Marnie Joseph [00:00:45]:

    Make the studio your own.

    Pete Joseph [00:00:46]:

Yeah, make the studio your own.

    Marnie Joseph [00:00:47]:

    Make our studio your own.

    Pete Joseph [00:00:48]:

Make our studio your own. From this look, look what they have done. They have utilized everything and then came up with some other stuff. Flow the bat, the Manny backdrop, by the way, Manny designed, co designed by this one right here. And they ran with everything. Books, these little notebooks, mugs, banners, pillows, the backdrop. These guys utilized every bit of marketing and branding for this. And what we're.

    Pete Joseph [00:01:21]:

You're starting to see in a lot of their comments is, hey guys, we're loving the new branding. We're loving it. And it's, it's, it's what you, you want. I look at. Oh, forgot this.

    Marnie Joseph [00:01:29]:

    Forgot this. Yes.

    Pete Joseph [00:01:31]:

    Mike plates.

    Marnie Joseph [00:01:32]:

Mike plates. Little, just little touch, little touches. Windscreens, little touches, Little tiny touches that instead of, you know, a boring podcast studio that always looks the same no matter what, can apply these little touches here. And SC Studio becomes your own talk shoes, talk show set. Talk shoes, talk shoot becomes your own talk show set.

    Pete Joseph [00:01:57]:

It becomes your own talk show set. And that's really a lot of studios out there. You can, you'll walk in and you'll sit down and beautiful, but you'll walk into a set piece that, that's what it is. Some might look like you're on the set of I, I. My favorite one is I feel like everybody looks like they're sitting on the set of Night at a museum. There's all these like antique looking things behind them and kind of cool.

    Marnie Joseph [00:02:19]:

    It's beautiful stuff. Yeah.

    Pete Joseph [00:02:21]:

You know, but it might not fit your set. You know, if you're not an archaeologist, ain't gonna work. Right. Like it just kind of, it might not fit your, your vibe.

    Marnie Joseph [00:02:29]:

    Or an anthropologist.

    Pete Joseph [00:02:30]:

Or an anthropologist. Any of the apologists. Any of the, any of the apologists or an apologist. Any of these. But we joke. But the object of this is to, is to let yourself be seen and to bring your brand out. And if you're sitting on somebody else's idea of Their set, it becomes hard to really immerse yourself in your show.

    Marnie Joseph [00:02:53]:

    Yeah.

    Pete Joseph [00:02:53]:

Right. So when these. When we talked with our guys and we talked to Challenge Mania and Scott and Derek about this, and we said, let's do something like, really, let's push the boundaries of your brand. Let's, let's, let's really. Let's bring out the new, new Manny, which is what we call him Manny. Let's really bring Manny out and make him a forefront of the set. And went for it. We went for it.

    Pete Joseph [00:03:14]:

And it is awesome because the minute you walk on here, you're. You're at Scutch. You're in. You're in SK Studios.

    Marnie Joseph [00:03:21]:

    Right.

    Pete Joseph [00:03:21]:

But when you walk past this threshold right about here, you're in the Challenge Mania Studios.

    Marnie Joseph [00:03:27]:

    That's right.

    Pete Joseph [00:03:28]:

Seriously, guys, like, all this marketing and all this branding fits inside of a little tote about this big. Take it, you put it in your trunk, you come back in, you set your studio up, you shoot on your personalized studio. It's the wave of the future, guys. It's either, you know, how do you want. And this, this. Not much. Not much.

    Marnie Joseph [00:03:48]:

    Not much money.

    Pete Joseph [00:03:48]:

No, not much money at all.

    Marnie Joseph [00:03:50]:

No. It's very affordable to do.

    Pete Joseph [00:03:52]:

Very, very affordable. And you can start with something just as simple as a mic plate.

    Marnie Joseph [00:03:56]:

    Yeah.

    Pete Joseph [00:03:57]:

Gobo goes a long way. This guy right here. That's awesome.

    Marnie Joseph [00:04:02]:

    Right?

    Pete Joseph [00:04:02]:

Can you put it in post? Yeah, you could. It's not going to look like that. It's not going to give you the ambiance when you walk onto your set. That's what we're striving for here, right? Yeah.

    Marnie Joseph [00:04:12]:

Little talk show sets. Our intent in building out the studio like this and having this offering is so that our clients, we can create little talk shows for our clients and they get their own set. These guys are entertainment. Right? We're talking about reality tv. We're talking about entertainment. It's very out there, you know, like just bright and bold and unapologetic. But it can also be.

    Pete Joseph [00:04:38]:

    Be subdued and simple.

    Marnie Joseph [00:04:39]:

    Right, right, right.

    Pete Joseph [00:04:41]:

    We have clients.

    Marnie Joseph [00:04:42]:

If you're a law firm. Right, right.

    Pete Joseph [00:04:43]:

Law firm. Or. Or Tanya with the butterfly.

    Marnie Joseph [00:04:46]:

    Right.

    Pete Joseph [00:04:46]:

Simple little pieces of the logo can go a long way. And it's, it's, it's. It's all about the branding. The place. Like I said, these guys are in your face. It's reality television. It's awesome. This is their.

    Pete Joseph [00:04:56]:

This is their home. Yeah. And it showed in their, in their. In their sessions. It was incredible. Like, yeah. Stuff that came out. If you get a chance watch some of their stuff or just see the clips of the four, man, that they shot.

    Pete Joseph [00:05:06]:

It's in. It's some of its most incredible stuff. It's just really. And I think a lot of it came from them feeling so comfortable on their set. And here's something I'd like to point out. I had a conversation really recently about Scooch, about somebody just kind of in the industry. And we were talking about something. He goes, what sets you guys apart? Like what.

    Pete Joseph [00:05:26]:

What really sets you apart? And I said, you know what it is, man? When you walk into Scooch, you walk into a mini soundstage.

    Marnie Joseph [00:05:33]:

    Yeah.

    Pete Joseph [00:05:34]:

And this isn't a podcast studio. It's a mini sound stage. I hate the term podcast. Anybody out there that knows me, I hate it. I'm not a fan of it. I don't like that old school microphone. Like, I. I don't like.

    Pete Joseph [00:05:45]:

    I don't like it.

    Marnie Joseph [00:05:46]:

He hates the old timey microphone.

    Pete Joseph [00:05:47]:

I don't like it. I don't like it. Don't like it. Crucify me in the. In the comments for you.

    Marnie Joseph [00:05:52]:

    And that all.

    Pete Joseph [00:05:53]:

I don't like it. It's actually a wonderful microphone. Actually. I, I don't like the imagery of it. I think podcast is an old school term. I think it's. Now it's all about the show. It's about shows and in a sense, programs.

    Pete Joseph [00:06:05]:

Right. It's a show. And you should not walk into a preset podcast with your vision of your show, of a set. You should be able to walk into something that you could strip down to bare bones and go, I want to build it from here. And that's what SC did. And we're also not afraid to build something like this for you. Not many places you can let you go. Yeah, let's do this.

    Pete Joseph [00:06:25]:

Oh, man. We, we. Everything's kind of set already. Our lighting is set and this is set.

    Marnie Joseph [00:06:30]:

You may be able to bring in some mugs or put your logo on a TV screen in the studio or something like that, but it's not. It's still not yours. It's still not branded as yours. It's still the place where six other podcasts shot that day. And if you put all the videos up next to each other, they'd look the same.

    Pete Joseph [00:06:49]:

And now, don't get us wrong. We, we can. You do basic setups for people too, but the option is here, right? If you have a bigger vision. Yeah, the option is here. Yeah. And that's. We said, yo, you can come in, sit On a basic set. Shoot, you know, it looks wonderfully beautiful, but if you want to get a little.

    Marnie Joseph [00:07:07]:

Yeah, right. Get a little custom.

    Pete Joseph [00:07:10]:

A little custom. You want to put a little, you

    Marnie Joseph [00:07:12]:

    know, judge it up.

    Pete Joseph [00:07:13]:

A little wrap on it, Right? Maybe you want to put a little better rim it up. I'm here. That's what we do. That's what we do. It's what we do. We take it.

    Marnie Joseph [00:07:24]:

    We judge it up.

    Pete Joseph [00:07:25]:

We take the simple. You know, it should be very, very simple. And we amplify it to here. You know, whether that's your audio, whether that's your ideas. Wait till you see some of. We wait till we have our conversation about our next podcast. We should wait till you hear about what we did with this.

    Marnie Joseph [00:07:39]:

Once it comes out, we'll do that. We can't say it.

    Pete Joseph [00:07:42]:

It's. He's big. This guy's huge. Big, big dude. On a lot of ways, it's a big deal. On a lot of. In a lot of ways, he's big. But wait till you see what we pulled off for this.

    Pete Joseph [00:07:56]:

You're going to be blown. I'm blown away. I still, I'm still like, I can't believe we pulled that off. That's going to come in the next episode of opp. But this one, it's all about challenge mania Set. It's about your custom set. Don't sell yourself short. You know, if you have that business out there, if you're.

    Pete Joseph [00:08:13]:

If you're a creator that's actually ready to take it to that next level, get creative, build out your own set. And here at Scutch, we can make that happen. So are we gonna leave them on anything else?

    Marnie Joseph [00:08:26]:

No, man, you just went. You just went for it. It was great. I can tell you're really excited about it.

    Pete Joseph [00:08:32]:

    Well, this is my domain.

    Marnie Joseph [00:08:33]:

    I know it is.

    Pete Joseph [00:08:34]:

    This is. This is my.

    Marnie Joseph [00:08:35]:

You are the theater ked, right?

    Pete Joseph [00:08:38]:

This is. I am, you know, the studio head in the sense that this is my. This is how I built and I envisioned. SK was always being. It's not just a podcast studio. It's a soundstage. And use it, Use it.
