We’re Down With OPP: Other People’s Podcasts
Introduction: What is opp?
When it comes to podcasting, Pete and Marnie Joseph are no strangers to creativity, collaboration, and client success. As the husband-and-wife duo behind Skutch Media, a premium video podcast and production house based in Atlanta, they’ve spent years crafting and launching shows for creators and business owners. But until recently, their own podcast took a back seat. Now they are sharing their journey, insights from working with notable podcasters and local business owners alike, and the evolution of their studio into a hub of innovation and connection.
A Podcast About Podcasts
After years of helping others, it clicked that their own podcast should be about what they love most, other people’s podcasts. Instead of forcing their show into a niche that didn’t fit, they decided to shine a spotlight on the “podcast makers, creators, movers and shakers” they've met along the way. Their mission? To interview fellow podcasters and business owners, discuss podcasting best practices, and share inspiring success stories. For Skutch, their passion for podcasting is evident in every conversation and creative collaboration.
From Studio Surprises to Nostalgia: Hosting Podcast Legends
The episode is filled with fun anecdotes from their summer and fall. One standout moment was receiving a call from Spotify to book the studio for Johnny Bananas and his podcast "Death, Taxes and Bananas." The episode featured reality TV heavyweights Mark Long and Derrick Kosinski, legends from MTV’s Road Rules and The Challenge.
Pete reflects on what it meant to host these icons: “a little surreal.” The duo even found personal connections during the visit. Derrick's Javy Baez Chicago Cubs jersey sparked a conversation about Pete and Marnie’s dog, Javy Baez, named after the baseball star.
Supporting Inspiring Voices: Client Launches and Special Guests
The episode also spotlights Amberly Lago, a motivational speaker, coach, and author whose show relaunches under Skutch Media’s guidance. Amberly’s story, one of resilience and overcoming adversity, epitomizes the kind of inspiring content Pete and Marnie help bring to life.
Looking ahead, they tease more launches: an entrepreneurial podcast, a life coaching show, and a program by a Purple Heart veteran. The variety underscores their belief in podcasting as a platform for diverse, impactful voices.
Signature Podcast Launch: Making Podcasting Accessible
For those overwhelmed by the “nitpicky” details of launching a show, Skutch Media offers a comprehensive package to handle everything from cover art and RSS feeds to YouTube optimization and promotional videos. Whether clients record in the Atlanta studio or remotely, Pete and Marnie strive to make podcasting accessible, efficient, and consistent.

Conclusion: The OPP Philosophy
At its core, OPP (Other People’s Podcast) is a celebration of the impact podcasting can have for business owners. Their work is about helping others succeed, whether they’re industry legends or first-time creators.
As OPP continues to showcase stories from the wide world of podcasting, listeners and aspiring podcasters alike can look forward to learning, laughing, and being inspired by the myriad journeys shared in the studio and beyond.

Pete Joseph [00:00:00]:
Foreign. Let's start.
Marnie Joseph [00:00:08]:
Let's talk about opp.
Pete Joseph [00:00:10]:
Oh, hello, everybody. Welcome. I'm Pete. This is Marn. Now, where's good jet? Let's just talk about. Let's talk about opp.
Marnie Joseph [00:00:18]:
Let's talk about opp.
Pete Joseph [00:00:19]:
OPP is other people's podcasts.
Marnie Joseph [00:00:22]:
Yeah.
Pete Joseph [00:00:22]:
We've tried forever to try to figure out a way to come. People come by all the time. We have people in the studio all the time, different people. And everybody always says, what's your podcast? And Marn and I both go, we've tried different things, and we've always seemed to just kind of never. Right. Because it's like nothing. The cobbler shoes almost, in a sense. Right.
Pete Joseph [00:00:46]:
Like, we just don't like. Yeah. We love doing for other people. We're really good at it. But, like, for ourselves, just kind of. And then we came up with an idea, the idea of opp, which is, if we love doing other people's podcasts so much, why shouldn't our podcast be.
Marnie Joseph [00:01:01]:
About other people's podcasts? Brilliant. Not the lamp. I got lipstick on my microphone. Great.
Pete Joseph [00:01:11]:
Terrific. Here we go.
Marnie Joseph [00:01:13]:
Sorry, Lip gloss on my microphone.
Pete Joseph [00:01:15]:
It's okay. That's our new podcast, Other People's Podcast. And we actually jumped in. First episode was just kind of like, what are these guys doing? And we did it with our good friend Adrian, who is with Multifamily Podcast and five others. Four others that I watched episodes. Great. But I think now is the perfect time to explain, you know, like we.
Marnie Joseph [00:01:33]:
Said, what's the one piece of advice we give people when they say they're starting they want to start a podcast? It's to do it about something that you love and something that you're passionate about doing. And that's other people's podcasts for us. So that's what we're doing our podcast about.
Pete Joseph [00:01:51]:
There it is, folks.
Marnie Joseph [00:01:52]:
There it is. We're going to talk to other podcasters, other po.
Pete Joseph [00:01:58]:
Yep.
Marnie Joseph [00:01:58]:
About their podcasts, about what's working, about what's not, about what's new. It. It.
Pete Joseph [00:02:05]:
Their backstory, why they did it.
Marnie Joseph [00:02:06]:
Yeah. They're, of course, advice that they have for podcasters.
Pete Joseph [00:02:13]:
We love. I love helping people to grow their podcast. So again. And actually when they come in and throwing them ideas and, you know, really being creative behind it, and it's. It's going to be nice to be able to now bring some of that out and kind of let them see the process. And, you know, you're actually here. But I'm most excited about hearing, you know, some of Our guests that we have planned, like to see where they've taken the podcast to now, physical events, to other things. That to me is just like, wow.
Pete Joseph [00:02:42]:
Because people always say, can you maybe just had our new clients say, can you make money off of this? Because they're using it strictly for a very specific reason. They never looked at the outside of sponsorship and you know, reads and ads and they never looked at any of that of the revenue driving of it, which was very eye opening. Right. And then we've seen now some of the people that we're working with that we're going to spotlight in this that you can show how they've taken it to completely other avenues of revenue.
Marnie Joseph [00:03:10]:
Yeah. And it's making it a really a 360 media.
Pete Joseph [00:03:14]:
It's pretty incredible. Yeah, it, it's rather, you know, I'd see you. I listen, I'm like, wow. Like, I can't wait to bring some of these stories and actually talk to the guys. You know, say, when we started this, I gave. They could be like, we started. We had no idea.
Marnie Joseph [00:03:26]:
Right, right.
Pete Joseph [00:03:26]:
And to see how far it's taken. It's a wonderful testament. Right. And that's my biggest thing of what we could bring to people with opp.
Marnie Joseph [00:03:33]:
Yeah. Right.
Pete Joseph [00:03:33]:
It's showing them like, wow, man, do you could take this. There's so many avenues that you don't see, but until you start doing it, you won't know.
Marnie Joseph [00:03:41]:
Yeah.
Pete Joseph [00:03:42]:
Be on the lookout. So that's op that's opp.
Marnie Joseph [00:03:46]:
All right, so then the second thing we're going to talk about today.
Pete Joseph [00:03:48]:
Here we go.
Marnie Joseph [00:03:49]:
Moving on, moving on. Our summer and fall thus far, starting with really kind of kicking off the. The craziness of our summer. Spotify contacted us to book the studio for one of their talent, and it ended up being Johnny Bananas for an episode of Death Taxes. And Bananas wanted to film an episode with a couple guests, Mark Long and Derek Kosinski of mtv Road Rules, Real World, the challenge, all of those good things.
Pete Joseph [00:04:29]:
So it's still. I still look at them like, that was fun. Well, I just like, these guys are in this. They're in our studio. Like, it was pretty crazy. Like, it was wonderful dudes, Wonderful guys.
Marnie Joseph [00:04:41]:
Yeah.
Pete Joseph [00:04:41]:
I watched you guys in a Winnebago when I was, you know, in my 20s. And now it's like, oh, I'm watching them shoot, you know, and. And Mark's still looking just complete 55 years old. That guy's. That guy's not human. He's like Thor. Like, I don't know how. Like, it's the most.
Pete Joseph [00:05:00]:
It's. It's. It's the most incredible thing I've ever seen. Like, you look at it.
Marnie Joseph [00:05:03]:
Wow.
Pete Joseph [00:05:05]:
That guy's 55 years old, and he looks just right. It's. It's incredible.
Marnie Joseph [00:05:10]:
No, but he doesn't look that much different from the first time we all saw him, which was on one episode of the Real World San Francisco.
Pete Joseph [00:05:19]:
He. Yeah, it was. We didn't know that.
Marnie Joseph [00:05:21]:
We. I knew it because I saw that episode. I remember watching that episode and seeing him. And it was when the San Francisco cast kicked Puck out of the house.
Pete Joseph [00:05:33]:
Get him out.
Marnie Joseph [00:05:33]:
And they were looking. They were looking for new roommates. They were interviewing new roommates. And Mark was one of the roommates they interviewed or one of the roommate candidates they interviewed.
Pete Joseph [00:05:42]:
I remember watching something, and then all of a sudden, now you're the Godfather. Who knew? He just was like, I don't know.
Marnie Joseph [00:05:48]:
But it's so funny sitting. Like, what? Being here, watching him sitting in your studio, telling this story and thinking. I remember watching that. That was cool.
Pete Joseph [00:05:58]:
That visit was more not just nostalgic, but, like, odd signs.
Marnie Joseph [00:06:03]:
Yeah.
Pete Joseph [00:06:03]:
I don't know what kind of the catalyst it was, but it was a very unique. Because, you know those guys coming in. A couple of odd things happened right off the shoot. I was actually helping. Derek was following me to get him a glass of water. And on the way back up, he had turned, and he had a Chicago Cubs jersey. That was bias. And.
Pete Joseph [00:06:29]:
Which is comical because I was like, I wonder if that's Javi Baez, because it's what we named our studio dog after. His name is Javi Baez. And I said, he's actually our dog.
Marnie Joseph [00:06:39]:
He's not just a studio dog.
Pete Joseph [00:06:40]:
He's our dog, but he's in the studio altogether. Here's here. And everybody that shoots here would understand. They would know Hoff. And I said, hey, because actually, at that point, Bananas and Mark were rolling around the floor with them at this point. So when we're walking back up the stairs to the studio, I said to Derek, I said, hey, is. Is that Javi Baez? Is that a Hobby Baez jersey? And he's like, what? And I said, yes. Is that a Javi Baez jersey? And he goes, you hobby Bias? I said, yeah, my.
Pete Joseph [00:07:08]:
We named our dog. Our dog's name is Javier. He's named after Javi Baez. Good man. Best second baseman.
Marnie Joseph [00:07:12]:
His name is Jav B. Javier B. The dog. Javier Baez, the dog.
Pete Joseph [00:07:19]:
The dog. I Said, seriously? I said, that's our. Our dog. He was like, bro, do you believe in signs? And I was like, sure, if they go my way. Yeah, no, sure. I'm, I, Yeah, I'm. Yeah. And he goes, you know, I.
Pete Joseph [00:07:33]:
Can we talk? And I, I do my podcast and this and that, and I, I didn't really think much of it. I mean, I, I.
Marnie Joseph [00:07:39]:
Speaking of Jav B.
Pete Joseph [00:07:41]:
Here he is. There he is. Like on. On. On. On demand.
Marnie Joseph [00:07:44]:
On cue.
Pete Joseph [00:07:45]:
On demand. There he is. Oh, by the way, everybody, this is the maiden voyage of the. The sk. The sketch light. So if you guys shoot here, we can do this logo for you too. So see this? Check it out. And.
Pete Joseph [00:07:56]:
Nice, huh? Look at that. First the. This is the first. The maiden voyage. So, anyway, back to Derek. We start talking. He's telling me about a podcast he has, and it's about, you know, the challenge and this and that. He's looking to upgrade, but we're talking about a couple things.
Pete Joseph [00:08:09]:
Had a good. Had a great conversation, gave him my card, said, man, call me. I'd love to talk to you. That was what, three months ago? Yeah, yeah. And since then, we've done out. Worked with them on a bunch of different shorts, help them tighten some stuff up, you know, like just a couple quick, you know, things on their. On their tech end that got them really fire and great just from, you know, helping them with some social. And it has been an absolute blast.
Pete Joseph [00:08:35]:
Like, we have had so much fun watching this to grow, you know, because now we're into the show and we're watching a bunch of other stuff, it really becomes a kind of a wonderful community.
Marnie Joseph [00:08:45]:
Yeah. I think that's the biggest lesson that or the biggest thing we've learned since we've started working with them is, like, how they engage with their fans.
Pete Joseph [00:08:53]:
Yeah.
Marnie Joseph [00:08:53]:
And how well they engage with their fans.
Pete Joseph [00:08:55]:
Pretty incredible.
Marnie Joseph [00:08:56]:
And yeah, it's. It's really. It's really fun to watch. They are masters in fan engagement. They truly are.
Pete Joseph [00:09:03]:
That's definitely be. That's. I think that was what, like, if we went and lit, like, our fuse for the summer. Yeah, that was it. It was just kind of a real fun, like, chance encounter. And then from then, it's just been.
Marnie Joseph [00:09:15]:
It's been a roller coaster, roller coaster and roller coaster.
Pete Joseph [00:09:20]:
Because then I could say from that we could lead right into Amberly.
Marnie Joseph [00:09:23]:
Yeah. We have a client who is relaunching her show this week, so this week, but this week that we're filming this, so it'll be out by the Time this is out. The Amberly Lago Show. Amberly Lago is her name. If you have not heard of her, she is absolutely amazing. She is a motivational speaker, mindset coach, best selling author. She's got an amazing story of resilience and just what you know you can do and what you can accomplish with the right mindset and with the right attitude. Definitely check her out.
Marnie Joseph [00:10:06]:
Her show is back this week. Comes out every Wednesday.
Pete Joseph [00:10:12]:
Where do we go from here? What's Next?
Marnie Joseph [00:10:14]:
We've got three clients launching their podcasts within the next 30 days.
Pete Joseph [00:10:21]:
Three.
Marnie Joseph [00:10:21]:
So big, big time month. Three, not including Amberly. So three additional clients launching within the.
Pete Joseph [00:10:27]:
Next 30 days, which we'll tell you about next time. But now just kind of a brief synopsis where we have a entrepreneurial.
Marnie Joseph [00:10:35]:
Yeah, yeah. One is an entrepreneur, 1A. I mean, I guess technically they're all entrepreneurs. Really.
Pete Joseph [00:10:43]:
Yes. But one is very beard towards.
Marnie Joseph [00:10:45]:
Geared towards the business. Right. One is a. For a life coaching business and one is a Purple Heart veteran.
Pete Joseph [00:11:00]:
So I love what we do.
Marnie Joseph [00:11:02]:
It's really cool, isn't it?
Pete Joseph [00:11:04]:
Well, just looking back, like, I can't wait to talk. Like, it's like so hard to explain. Like, what. I just can't wait for you guys to hear these stories. And we have a bunch of them coming. That's why OPP is going to be the perfect podcast for you, because it's going to talk to you and open you up to all people's other podcasts. We're here to just. We are the.
Pete Joseph [00:11:20]:
What is it? Those. Those movie guys that review stuff. Like, we're those dudes. But we just got to give information. Ebert, not the Muppet. We could put the old people. That's what I thought.
Marnie Joseph [00:11:30]:
We were the tools.
Pete Joseph [00:11:32]:
Now we're just two old people. It's like, oh, they're just two old people, the Muppets. We could be those. Maybe.
Marnie Joseph [00:11:38]:
Do you think that's what people think OPP stands for Old People's Podcast.
Pete Joseph [00:11:42]:
Maybe. Let's see. Who are these old sons of now? They don't know these two, so they're saying, fine. No, that's not what opp. It's other people's podcasts. But no, we just give information. We really our job. We wake up every day and we say, I wonder what's gonna happen today? Like, who are we gonna get a call from today? Like, like this week, who we shot? Like, who knew?
Marnie Joseph [00:12:05]:
Who knew? Who knew? Who knew? Who knew?
Pete Joseph [00:12:10]:
Like, how much fun was that?
Marnie Joseph [00:12:12]:
We. It was fun.
Pete Joseph [00:12:16]:
That was super cool.
Marnie Joseph [00:12:17]:
We can't say who it is, right?
Pete Joseph [00:12:20]:
Well, I mean, we kind of put it out on social, didn't we?
Marnie Joseph [00:12:22]:
That's true. We did kind of already put it out on.
Pete Joseph [00:12:24]:
Yeah. It was just we shot with. We had the chance to shoot, you know, Sonya Michelle, Nick Chubb. Nick Chubb.
Marnie Joseph [00:12:31]:
Two, two, two. Georgia Bulldog, like legends.
Pete Joseph [00:12:39]:
Two of the top three running backs.
Marnie Joseph [00:12:42]:
In Georgia football history, UGA history.
Pete Joseph [00:12:46]:
Here, like in this chair. I think one of them said yes, that chair, too.
Marnie Joseph [00:12:53]:
Yeah. Two time super bowl champ. Sony Michelle. Two.
Pete Joseph [00:12:57]:
Nick Chubb, two rings, as in off week. And came to do this. Wow. What's gonna be next? You know what's gonna be next? You'll know through OPP. Now I know what we have here. It's incredible. And to see people come in and get a chance to experience it and hear people say stuff like, this is the most creative thing. This is the.
Pete Joseph [00:13:19]:
One of the best experiences. Like, that's what we want to bring. And whether you're, you know, somebody big or you're just, you know, coming and starting your podcast, you get treated the same way.
Marnie Joseph [00:13:27]:
Where were we? Signature podcast launch.
Pete Joseph [00:13:30]:
Hey, everybody, let's talk about the signature podcast launch. Do you guys have a. You have a podcast out there? You're kind of kicking around. You just can't figure out how to get all, like, the little knick knacky stuff.
Marnie Joseph [00:13:40]:
Knick knacky.
Pete Joseph [00:13:42]:
Well, I'm sorry. It's our specialty. Just had to be bad. The little stuff, you know, the stuff that just drives you crazy just to get it up and running, that kind of makes stall it. Yeah, right. Roadblocks, Roadblocks, Roadblocks. We got a program out there to help you kind of get past that.
Marnie Joseph [00:13:59]:
So essentially, we've developed this launch package where we will do it all for you. Everything from your cover art, your setting up your RSS feed, setting up and optimizing your YouTube channel, designing your thumbnail templates, intro your intro, your copywriting, promotional videos to promote your launch. Everything all wrapped up in one. All of those neat little packs. Nitpicky. Nitpicky is what you meant instead of knick knacky. Nick, Nick, that's what you meant.
Pete Joseph [00:14:36]:
Nitpicky.
Marnie Joseph [00:14:37]:
I was like nitpicky.
Pete Joseph [00:14:40]:
I meant nitpicky.
Marnie Joseph [00:14:41]:
Nitpicky. All of those little nitpicky details that you don't have time for.
Pete Joseph [00:14:48]:
We can do it.
Marnie Joseph [00:14:49]:
We can do it for you. If you are a business owner who, you know, wants to have a podcast for your business, but you don't have the time to do it yourself or the resources to do it yourself. Or also, if you're a team, if.
Pete Joseph [00:15:05]:
You'Re a marketing department that's looking to do this just goes, man. Nobody else can take this on. We can seamlessly work right in with that. Right, right. We can. We come from that.
Marnie Joseph [00:15:15]:
There are multiple ways that we can work with you just kind of slide right in and take all of the details of getting a podcast launched and live and publishing consistently right off. Right off the. Right out of your hands.
Pete Joseph [00:15:36]:
Even remote. Yes, we could even do it remote. So if you have a location, you let us know. It doesn't just have to be our studio.
Marnie Joseph [00:15:44]:
Yes, I think that's another. That's a. That's a good point, is that we. We do have clients. We work with clients that are all over the country that aren't just in Atlanta. So while we do have a studio here in Atlanta, we do work with clients across the country who record remotely and, you know, send us their files for processing and post production. So, yeah.
Pete Joseph [00:16:05]:
So however you want to do it, let us know. And also we can come to you. We could bring the whole party to you if that's an option as well. But just reach out to us at Skutch. That's it. Today.
Marnie Joseph [00:16:15]:
Today was a quick one.
Pete Joseph [00:16:16]:
All right, everybody, quick hit. Thanks so much for joining us for our second episode of OPP Other People's podcast, a Skutch Media production. I am Pete. This is Marnie. We'll be back, hopefully with more information on the world of podcasting. Be good. Talk to you soon.
